20,000 words!

One of my goals this year is to write 120,000 words, which means I need to average 10,000 words a month.  In January, I wrote 10,038 and so far in February, with two days left, I’ve written 10, 183.  So I’m 20,221 words towards my goal ahead of schedule.

200 Days!

Posted in Writing with tags on February 14, 2013 by oneoveralpha

Just before 1:00 AM on February 14th, I opened one of my ebook projects and did a little revision.  Because of that, I can now say that I have written every day for the past 200 days.  And in that time, I’ve written 45,554 words.  And the best part is, today isn’t even over yet.

On to 300!

Introducing Wednesday Writing Prompt

Posted in Wednesday Writing Prompt, Writing with tags , on February 13, 2013 by oneoveralpha

I used to put up short writing exercises as a Monday Writing Prompt on this other site, but for various reasons, I haven’t done it for a couple months.  And since it can take me a couple months to realize something, I just realized I should restart doing that here.  And the reason I’m doing Wednesday now instead of Monday, is I thought of this late on a Tuesday and didn’t feel like waiting.  So let’s begin.

You can read all you want about writing, but the real test is to actually write something.  Hence, a short exercise for those of you wanting to hone your craft.

Quick, compose a sentence using the words “winter” and “books.” Leave it as a comment.

My birthday is this weekend, and as my gift to you, four of my Kindle ebooks (The All-You-Can-Read Buffet, Political Pies, “Brain for Rent and other stories,” and “Rise”) will be free Saturday, February 9th, and Sunday February 10th.  Also, with this Kindle thing I get five free promotion days each quarter, and I’ve already used up four for A Man of Few Words, so it will just be free this Sunday.  All together they contain 136 stories that you can have for free.  So check them out.

Buffet

Last month, I made a push on promoting my first short story anthology, A Man of Few Words.  This month, I’m doing the same with my second anthology, The All-You-Can-Read Buffet.  It contains  forty stories covering various genres and themes ranging from six to over 4,200 words in length. They also cover a wide time range. Some of these stories I began writing a decade ago, while others were written especially for this collection. All together, they are a buffet of my writing. As such, I encourage you to read as much as you want. Go back for seconds, thirds, fourths even. I won’t even mind if you skip over the stuff you don’t like, but, to quote your mother, “How do you know you don’t like it? Have you tried it?”

This link will take you to the page I set up for the book with all the places you can find it.
