Brain for Rent and other stories

Posted in Books, Stories with tags , , , , , , , , on October 28, 2012 by oneoveralpha

I’ve just published a minianthology of five of my short, scifi stories.  Here’s the description:

“Brain for Rent and other stories” is a collection of five, short scifi stories by Stephen L. Thompson giving a sampling of his writing. Included in the collection are: “Brain for Rent” about a ne’re-do-well failed writer with a conceptual implant who discusses his work with a young woman thinking of getting an implant herself. “The Demonstration” is about a different young woman wanting to show off her latest body modification. “Self Imprisonment” offers one solution of where to put the backup copy of yourself for safe keeping. “The Best Job Ever” is about a necessary – yet unpleasant – human/alien interaction. And the collection ends with “Why Stay?” which explains why, after years of fighting the humans, the robots just deactivate.

“Brain for Rent and other stories” can be on your Kindle for only $0.99!

Photo Fridays – Bookmarks

Posted in Books, Photo Fridays with tags , , on October 26, 2012 by oneoveralpha

Over the years, I’ve gathered a large selection of bookmarks (and this isn’t even my whole collection) but I only use a few at a time.  Of course, when does a bookmark become too frayed or too worn to act as a bookmark?  They’re almost indestructible.

Photo Friday – writing books

I was trying to think of something I could take a photo of for today, and I just happened to glance over at my books shelf where I have numerous books on writing.  I have read a few of them, but I do feel I should read the rest of them.  I don’t know when I’ll have the time for it.

Upcoming free Kindle promotions

Posted in Books, Stories with tags , , , , , , on October 15, 2012 by oneoveralpha

This week I’ll be having a free promotion for the Kindle versions of my story collections.  You’ll be able to download A Man of Few Words for free on Tuesday the 16th, The All-You-Can-Read Buffet on Wednesday the 17th, and Political Pies on Thursday the 18th.   Also, I only have three small issues with Brain for Rent and other stories, which is a minianthology of five short, scifi stories.  My hope is to have that resolved in the next day or two, and then publish it on Kindle.  If that all works out, I’ll have a free promotion for it on Friday the 19th.  So if you download all of them, you’ll end up with 135 short stories covering numerous themes and genres all for the low low price of $0.00.  What do you have to lose?

Introducing Photo Fridays

Posted in Photo Fridays, Writing with tags , , on October 12, 2012 by oneoveralpha

Last night at the writing group I go to, we had a guest speaker, Sadie from All Natural Me, who gave a talk on blogging.  One of the things she talked about on successful blogging, was posting regularly, which is something I need to work on.  She also said that a great way to get people to keep coming back, and possibly spreading the word on your blog, was to have photos, especially if you have cute captions for them.  I could do that, I thought.  Well, I could probably do that.  We’ll see.  But I’m starting a new thing here of putting up photos on Fridays, hopefully with some witty little saying on them.  I didn’t have a witty saying for this one, because I was short on time, but come back next week when I hopefully have some wit.

A few months ago, I was on a bus trip out west that included Yellowstone National Park.  This was one of the things we saw.  This photo was taking through the bus window, and turned out pretty good, I think.

My new book, Political Pies, is out!

I’ve just self-published my third short story collection, Political Pies.  It is a collection of forty of my stories with a political theme, but don’t worry, I’m not trying to sway you to one ideology or another.  The stories are just to make you chuckle and – maybe – to give you something to think about.  Here is the description for it:

Everybody complains about politics, but does anyone do anything about it? Stephen L. Thompson’s attempt to do something about it is to collect forty of his short stories with a political element into his Political Pies anthology. His stories are either politically neutral or equally condemning of the national parties. Instead of trying to sway you to one ideology or another, his goal is to just get people thinking about politics in the hopes a rose might grow out of all the political manure.

Here is a link to the page on my website where I link to all the places I’ve found it.  I hope you’ll check it out.

Howdy,
Welcome to my electronic newsletter, covering September 2012.

My publication news for the past month:
Publication of my third short story collection, Political Pies.  The link is to my page set up with all the places you can find it.

This month I wrote 7,699 words, giving me a yearly total so far of 72,488.  If I keep at the rate I’ve been going, I’ll reach my 80,000 word goal in October.

I wrote every day of September, so I still have five free, no-writing days left this year.

Here is my story board at the end of September:

Here is my haiku for the month, which fits in with the biggest thing for me this month.
