Preliminary info for Political Pies

Here is the preliminary cover and description for my next short story anthology, Political Pies, which I hope to have out in early October.  Let me know what you think.

Everybody complains about politics, but does anyone do anything about it?  Stephen L. Thompson’s attempt to do something about it is to collect forty of his short stories with a political element into his Political Pies anthology.  His stories are either politically neutral or equally condemning of the national parties.  Instead of trying to sway you to one ideology or another, his goal is to just get people thinking about politics in the hopes a rose might grow out of all the political manure.

Should I be concerned?

I don’t know how often I’ve heard people discussing how dark scifi is these days.  Some complain that older scifi was more often a fun adventure with fascinating technology on strange worlds, whereas nowadays everything is dystopian.  As I said, I’ve been hearing this for some time and I figured writing a fun adventure tale with fascinating technology on strange worlds would be a good move.  So last night (really this morning) when I was trying to fall asleep, I came up with an interesting premise for a story that would be choked full of bizarre technology.  I thought up a few little details, but I had no idea what the plot would be.  Well, this afternoon I sat down to type up some of my thoughts for the story.  I started thinking about where the story would go.  I only jotted down a few ideas because I have a ton of other projects I need to work on already.  Anyway, it wasn’t until a few hours later that I realized yes there would be bizarre technology, but the ideas I was coming up with were for a dark, possibly dystopian world.   Should I be concerned at how easy it seems for me to slip into a dystopian plot?

Heavy handed muse

I recently found Oglaf Comics, which are of an adult nature with language, nudity, and sex.  Mixed in are some strange, but very amusing comics.  Two of these concern a muse.  I’ll link to them if you are interested, but I will warn you that they contain language and cartoon nudity: The Blank Page and Muse.

Stephen L. Thompson’s July 2012 Newsletter

Welcome to my electronic newsletter, covering July 2012.

* * *

My publication news for the past month:

Publication of my short story “Lucas Witnesses” on my Ficly profile.

* * *

This month I wrote 4,226 words, giving me a yearly total so far of 57,704.

Because I was traveling and didn’t have that much time to be on a computer, there were nine days in July where I did not write.  That means I only have five free, no-writing days left this year.  That means I’ll basically have to write every day for the rest of the year, which was the point of this exercise.

Here is my story board at the end of July:

When I started these newsletters, I figured if I included a story with each one it would make it more interesting as well as prompting me to write a story.  But over the years, it has become more of a burden with me either not having the time to write a story or forgetting.  Last month I said I needed to think on this, and I’ve decided to stop writing stories for my newsletter.  I will, in an attempt to keep these somewhat interesting, change over to writing haiku.  In the past, if I didn’t have a story, I’d whip out a haiku, so this isn’t an entirely new thing.
