Free Kindle download of The All-You-Can-Read Buffet

This weekend (June 30 and July 1) I’ll be promoting my second short story anthology, The All-You-Can-Read Buffet, by letting you download the Kindle version for free! Here’s is the book’s description:

The All-You-Can-Read Buffet is a collection of forty stories covering various genres and themes ranging from six to over 4,200 words in length. They also cover a wide time range. Some of these stories I began writing a decade ago, while others were written especially for this collection. All together, they are a buffet of my writing. As such, I encourage you to read as much as you want. Go back for seconds, thirds, fourths even. I won’t even mind if you skip over the stuff you don’t like, but, to quote your mother, “How do you know you don’t like it? Have you tried it?”

This weekend (June 23 and 24) I’ll be promoting my first short story anthology, A Man of Few Words, by letting you download the Kindle version for free!  Here is the book’s description:

A Man of Few Words is a collection of 50 flash fiction stories by Stephen L. Thompson. How does a teenager work up the courage to call a girl? What would happen if a “T-Rex on steroids” attacked a city? Why do science fiction writers make the best lovers? How does a company get to Second Base with VIPs? These questions and more are explored by Stephen using less than 1000 words and in various genres from humor to horror and general fiction to science fiction. The majority of the stories have been previously published (most by Stephen himself on his website) but all have been revised for this collection. In addition, each piece is accompanied by some background information giving a fuller story experience.

Weight Off My Shoulders

Posted in Books, Stories, Writing with tags , , on June 22, 2012 by oneoveralpha

For those of you who didn’t already know, I’m working on my third story anthology.  Here is the initial cover idea:

Yes, I’m taking advantage of the brouhaha over the 2012 Election by hoping to release a collection of political stories.  😀

Anyway, at some point I counted up all the stories I had written (most of which had already been published) and the ones I hoped to finish and had about forty.  So I figured it would be a collection of forty stories.  So far, so good.  But as I worked on it, I came to realize that a few of the stories didn’t fit.  They were either too dated, too naive, or just sucked.  Last week I went through all the stories again and ended up dropping two more, leaving me with only thirty-eight stories.  I did come up with a new idea, and I’m still working on it, but what could I use for the fortieth story?  I’m pretty sure that between the heat and that I’m just sick of politics, my story generator isn’t working that well.  In desperation, I went through some stories I had online – hoping for some inspiration – when I came across a story that was perfect for the collection but I had forgotten to include it.  I have my fortieth story!  Now all I need to do is rearrange a few things, finish writing a couple of the stories, and give the whole thing a polish, and I’ll be done with the first draft.

This is a huge weight off my shoulders.  I was beginning to seriously doubt that I could finish the first draft by the end of the month, but now I think I may finish it this weekend.  I think the worry of not coming up with a fortieth story was making me dread working on the collection, but now there’s a level of excitement because I’m almost done with the damn thing.

My first two books are on Kindle

My first two story collections – ninety stories in all – are now available on Kindle for only $2.99 each.

This is from whatdoestheinternetthink.net, and I’m happy to see that in the week when A Man of Few Words makes it to Kindle, the internet is “absolutely positive” about it.  😀

Stephen L. Thompson’s May 2012 Newsletter

Howdy,

Welcome to my electronic newsletter, covering May 2012.

* * *

My publication news for the past month:

None.

* * *

This month I wrote 8,235 words, giving me a yearly total so far of 45,633, meaning, I’m well over halfway to my goal of 80,000 words this year.

I wrote every day in May, so I still have seventeen free days when I don’t have to write.  And I may need them in the beginning of June, because I’ve picked up something and there will probably be a couple days when I won’t feel up to writing.

I did manage to write one chapter for my novel None of Them Knew the Color of the Sky, but I don’t know how much of that I will get done in June.  My main goal for June is to finish the first draft of my next story collection Political Pies.  My hope is to self-publish that in October.  I’m sure I’ll have more on that next month

Here is my story board at the end of May:

I wanted to write a story for this month, but it felt like the month ended sooner than I expected.  I did, however, manage to write a stupid little haiku, so I wasn’t completely slacking.  😀
