40,000 words!

Posted in Writing on May 12, 2012 by oneoveralpha

If you follow my newsletter, you know that my goal this year is to write 80,000 words.  Well, as of May 11, I have written 40,024 words.  So it looks likely I’ll meet my goal.  Of course, writing almost 19,000 words last month played a huge role.

Howdy,

Welcome to my electronic newsletter, covering April 2012.

My publication news for the past month:

Publication of my stories: “Unforgettable,” “Black Market Books,” “Is That How it Works?” “An Eye for an Eye,” “A Cabin Under a Cloudy Sea,” “Free Crap,” “Bad Scifi is Universal,” “Stuff Happens,” “One Question,” “Job Security,” “Priorities,” “In a Rut,” “Bound to Happen,” “Bottomless Pit,” “If Only It Were That Easy,” “We the People,” “Quieting the Voices,” “Faulty Programming, I,” “Faulty Programming, II,” “Backup,” “The Sophias,” “W. A.,” “An Improvement,” “Rambling with Purpose,” “Connecting with the People,” “Idiot 2.0,” “How Did They Get Our Number?” “Can’t Hack It,” “Motherhood,” and “It’s Tough Being a Writer” as part of my 30 Stories in 30 Days Challenge.

In addition, I also self-published my second, short story collection, The All-You-Can-Read Buffet!

This month I wrote 18,642 words, giving me a yearly total so far of 37,398.  If you notice, that means I wrote more in April than I wrote in the first three months of the year.  Not bad.  I’m also pretty close to halfway to my goal of 80,000 words this year.  Also not bad.

What makes that even more surprising, is that there were two days where I didn’t write at all.  One was because I was sick and just couldn’t do anything, and the other was because I was taking it easy.  I’d just written thirty stories in twenty-eight days, so give me a break.  So I still have seventeen non-writing days left this year.

I didn’t write any chapters for my novel None of Them Knew the Color of the Sky.  My plan is to get back into that while I work on my third story collection, Political Pies, which I hope to have out in October.  So we’ll have to see how that goes.

Here is my story board at the end of April:

You’ll forgive me for not writing a story this month for the newsletter.  I was busy.  😀  But I will try to have one for next month.
