Number 9

Posted in Writing on July 25, 2009 by oneoveralpha

This is just a little note to mark a special occasion. On July 7, 2004, I began taking a notebook with me to work so I could write during down time or lunch. Today I started in on my ninth notebook. May the stories I write in it be as good as the ones in the previous eight.

Ficly Story

Over a week ago I saw this entry over on Bad Astronomy, which is the first time I heard of Ficly. This is a site where you can publish stories of less than 1,024 characters. I figured, Oh, thatโ€™s nothing. So I looked at my unpublished stories, and found that all of them were too long. Iโ€™ve been busy lately, so it took me awhile to get around to writing a story for Ficly, and I finally got around to it: Perfect Justice. Enjoy.

30 Stories in 30 Days recap

Posted in Stories, Website, Writing on July 5, 2009 by oneoveralpha

Well, I did it. I wrote 30 stories during June. It was – exhausting. In the past few days I’ve relaxed and taken care of all the paperwork involved with the stories – printing them out, updating my published works, etc. But now that I’m all done with that, I figured I should write up some of my thoughts.

Before I did this the first time last September, I spent months thinking about it and getting all psyched up for it. This time around, however, it seemed to hit me by surprise, oh yeah, I’m supposed to write 30 stories in June. In May I worked on The Invisible Cliff and finishing up a revision to a story, so I didn’t really have much time to prepare myself. And I was still coming out of a writing rut, so I was worried I might not be up to the task. Of course, knowing that I managed to do this last year just added more pressure for me to do it this year. As a result of all this stress, I may have padded my count with some very short stories, but hey, you try writing 30 stories in 30 days and see how short you make them. ๐Ÿ˜›

One of the reasons behind my 30 Stories in 30 Days Challenge is to clean out my story ideas. I have tons of ideas that I never get around to working on. Unfortunately, as I put my mind in high gear to write all these stories, more story ideas come to me. In fact, of the 30 stories, only 9 of them were ones where the idea had been with me for awhile. The other 21 were ones where the idea came to me in June. The numbers last year were 16/14. I hope that isn’t a tread, otherwise I may have to do 30 old stories ideas in April and 30 new stories ideas in November or something. Probably not, writing 30 stories in 30 days is something you should only do once a year. ๐Ÿ˜›

I can’t really think of anything else right now. I guess my brain’s still a little tapiocaed. ๐Ÿ˜€ Can’t wait until next year, and I’m really glad it won’t be until next year.
